The Jelly Faerie

This is an illustration I made for a contest. The concept was to think about faeries hidden in everyday life places. I chose the pantry and thought about a character who loves to steal small amounts of jelly from the jar. Her dress and hair are inspired by the jello jar itself and her wings give a nod to the natural world where these magical beings come from.
The technique is watercolor, my favorite medium. I added details in gold paint and a white ink pen. I normally plan illustrations like these digitally before putting pen to paper. I like to think about the pose design and the color combinations. Regarding color, I chose to paint with a limited palette too. Working with limited palettes gives a sense of unity to the piece.
